Since a young
boy, my interest in pets was always part of my life. At age 5, my
dad bought me a goldfish in a goldfish bowl. That was all it took!
My pursuit soared into becoming an enthusiastic tropical fish
hobbyist!
Maintaining several tropical aquariums, I breed species from Guppies
to Mollies. In 1985, I wrote to Tropical Fish Hobbyist Magazine
about the use of live tubifex worm feeding and the association to
disease which was published in its entirety! As the years past, I
moved to the big league of salt water aquariums. Enjoying the beauty
color and grace to the astonishing tank raised living coral mini
reef!
Dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, amphibians and birds too became
part of the family. I have raised and/or breed gerbils, mice, guinea
pigs, ferrets, rabbits, snakes, lizards, frogs, turtles and
salamanders! My wife Michele, and I are former dog groomers and
breeders of Lhasa Apso's and Golden Retrievers. The first bird I
owned was a Parakeet that I won at a feast. From there the
collection grew to 27 in a very short time!
My two sons, Chris and Coddy, have or have had aquariums consisting
of tropical fish, turtles of various species, reptiles, newts,
frogs, toads and hermit crabs. In cages, gerbils, guinea pigs and
rabbits. Also belonging to our family are 2 Golden Retrievers, Buddy
& Buster, who are father and son, a Lhasa Apso Lil Bear, Sky an
American Pit-bull Terrier, Toby a 5 pound tea-cup Yorkshire Terrier,
Tyco the newest addition to our family who is an American
Pit-bull Terrier
and Garfield, Tubby and Tiger our cats, Bella our African Gray
and Diesel our Sever Macaw. Chris at one time had a few scorpions!
Chris now living on his own has 11 Pit-bull Terriers which he breeds,
7 cats, 2 saltwater aquariums, reptiles and birds! Visit Chris'
kennel
site.
During the construction of my original Torino Aviary web site, our
beloved cat Zak past away on September 25, 2004 at 12:04 AM. In his
honor, our family dedicates this site to him as well as to our other
pet family members that have past, Missy, Joval and Lucky our
Lhasa's, Sam and Tabby our cats and Rosie our Golden.
One thing that was always important to me was to house all my pets
in the most natural setting possible and to supply them with proper
diet and nutrition. I had taken zoological studies to further expand
my ability to properly provide nutritional feeding and housing to
maintain longevity and healthy environments. Cleanliness, feeding
and quality breeding are the essential aspects of any pet that is
kept!
Research into the care and maintaining is of the utmost importance
for anyone thinking of taking on the responsibility of owning a pet.
Rushing into ownership can cause great dismay leading to the death
of your pet. So please, do some leg work prior to ownership so you
know what will be expected of you for the wellbeing of your pet.
Remember, pets are more than Christmas gifts. They are long term
commitments that are the owner’s responsibilities.
Birds are
magnificent creatures to observe flying around as they sing, chirp,
coo, meep, beep or squawk. Its a true pleasure. Breeding brings
additional rewards of joy as you watch hatchings go through the ugly
yet cute chick stage to beautiful adulthood!
Currently at Torino Aviary, I breed many domestic and exotic
finches. A hobby gone mad is a true labor of love that has so many
rewards. I carefully select birds that are breed and take care to
maintain the integrity of the species. It is my hopes to one day
open a store front aviary so that I can further share my knowledge
with others that wish to be bird owners/breeders.
Thanks for taking the time to
learn about us.
